What Machine Burns the Most Calories

The most common question I get asked on a daily basis is which machine burns the most calories.
Unfortunately machines don’t burn calories, the person using it does. So, my answer is simple, which
ever one you use. The key is to be intense during your workouts so you can burn calories even after
the workout by speeding up your metabolism.
The reason for picking a certain machine ( tool ) to use is based on how your body responds. If you
have knee or lower back issues stay away from a stairclimber. If you don’t like to run or walk briskly
don’t get on a treadmill. If you like to ride a bike then consider a bike. If you want low impact and a
total body burn get on a rowing machine.
The most common mistake I hear is that elliptical machines burn the most calories, this is simply not
true. Because it is a weight bearing exercise your heart rate will increase quicker, but once the machine
gets going the momentum makes it easier to use.
Just remember your heart rate is the basis of how hard you are working and how many calories you
are burning. Try to vary your heart rate from 65% to 85% to even 95% of your maximum heart rate
during your training to maximize your calorie burn. If you still think the machine is what burns calories
here is a guide line to what each machine can do ( depending on your intensity ) during one hour of
training.
A bike can burn between 500 – 1000 calories.
A treadmill can burn between 600 – 1200 calories.
An elliptical can burn about 600 calories. Don’t lean on the rails and use the arms to burn more.
A rowing machine can burn over 1000 calories.
A stairclimber between 400-500 calories.
